Porsche’s current 997 series 911 came in 2006 and is still the mainstay of the brand in Australia - although it is helped along substantially by the Cayenne SUV in maintaining overall Porsche sales. The traditional aft-of-rear-axle, horizontally opposed engine formula remains undisturbed, but it’s all exquisitely sophisticated today. The fully focussed, rear-drive GT2 coupe is even more dizzying than the four-wheel drive Turbo 911. It wields no less than 390kW, along with 680Nm of turbo torque to deliver the most scintillating of Porsche experiences through a manual-only six-speed transmission.
