The hatchback and sedan Meganes are Renault’s mainstay models, currently representing by far the bulkiest slice of the company’s Australian sales. Available in petrol or turbo form, the VW Golf-size, five-door Megane hatch offers a decent-size interior -- even though its wheelbase is shorter than the sedan -- excellent, smooth-riding on-road dynamics and high levels of safety. The five-speed manual-only 83kW/152Nm 1.6-litre petrol engine in the base Authentique hatch claims an average fuel consumption figure of 7.0L/100km.
