Volvo’s XC70 SUV, like Audi’s AllRoad, stems from a more pedestrian station wagon but has a jacked-up suspension, more aggressive bodywork, an added five-cylinder turbodiesel option and a computer-controlled Haldex 4WD system supported by hill-descent control. It partly underscores Volvo’s “SUV-company” role today. The 2.4-litre turbodiesel five-cylinder engine develops 136kW and 400Nm and drives through a standard six-speed Geartronic auto transmission. The LE turbodiesel model adds front and rear parking sensors, a power front passenger’s seat, power sunroof, 18-inch alloys and a six-disc CD audio to base XC70 equipment.
