Volvo’s XC70 SUV, like Audi’s AllRoad, stems from a more pedestrian station wagon but has a jacked-up suspension, more aggressive bodywork, an added five-cylinder turbodiesel option and a computer-controlled Haldex 4WD system supported by hill-descent control. The normally aspirated 3.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine develops 175kW and 320Nm and drives through a standard six-speed Geartronic auto transmission. The XC70 comes with stability and traction control, six airbags, 17-inch alloys, cruise control, automatic climate-control, rear parking sensors, leather trim with heated front seats, power driver’s seat, cruise control, trip computer and eight-speaker CD audio.
